Pain, Anxiety, Sleep. These are the most common reasons people seek out cannabinoids as part of their health and wellness routines. At Natural Blüm we have seen a continued increase in individuals looking at non-psychoactive cannabinoids or help with going to sleep and getting a full, restful night sleep. We have offered our vegan, kosher and gluten-free gummies with melatonin, to give that extra kick in falling asleep for some time, and many of our die-hard customers continue to see benefits when taking the CBD/CBG/Melatonin combination we offer. However, we still have a portion of individuals that get a foggy “hangover” effect from melatonin and have asked if we can offer something stronger than CBD/CBG but with an alternative the the melatonin.
As always, owner Curt Gebers has gone to great lengths to procure a high quality, consistent option that meets his stringent and rigorous process. We now offer gummy combinations with the cannabinoid cannabinol (CBN) to help you get that rest you want to achieve. In this article we will discuss what CBN is and give you information regarding the medical research and studies, as well as expert articles that have been produced by trusted publishers on this topic. As always, click on the links below to read the research for yourself.
What Is CBN?
CBN is a naturally occurring cannabinoid that is produced in the cannabis plant as it ages. When produced within a cannabis plant’s structure it is synthesized as the cannabinoid THC is heated or exposed to oxygen. This converts the THC into CBN. The conversion of THC to CBN can also occur during the extraction of THC in the same way. As THC is heated and exposed to oxygen during the extraction process it converts to CBN.
Since it is derived from THC there is always concern regarding whether it has psychoactive properties. While research has conflicting results regarding CBN’s psychoactive effects, some say it has none while others say that it may have extremely mild effects, one thing they can all agree on is that CBN appears to have potentially powerful sedative effects.
How CBN Works In Your Body
With over 100 cannabinoids currently identified, experts work to define how each one effects the body and mind of humans and pets, and how each one interacts with our endocannabinoid system. What we know is that CBN interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system influencing mood, energy, cognition and focus, appetite, immune function, and pain. The area that research focuses on for CBN benefits is primarily sleep. According to an article in Psychology Today, there are indications that CBN is a powerful sedative. Initial scientific research suggests CBN may make a difference to prolong sleep time. Research also indicates that it has properties to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, it shows promising evidence or its ability to slow or stop the growth and spread of cancer cells and as a therapeutic treatment for epilepsy.
Some research even indicates that CBN can stimulate the production of new bones and can be considered an effective treatment for glaucoma. Like most cannabinoids it also has natural antibacterial properties. One thing is clear, more research is being conducted and medical professionals have concluded that there may be great benefits, beyond sleep, or CBN.
