Researchers Find That Cannabis May Help Prevent COVID?

Another reason to take your CBD and CBG is to block the COVID-19 virus’ ability to enter healthy cells within your body. This is according the Oregon State University research study published this week in the Journal of Natural Products. An abstract of the recent study goes on to say that “these cannabinoids have the potential to prevent as well as treat infection by SARS-CoV-2.” Within the research it was found that two cannabinoid acids commonly found in hemp varietals of cannabis, cannabigerolic acid, commonly referred to as CBG, and cannabidiolic acid, commonly referred to as CBD, can bind to the spike proteins of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. These spikes referenced are generally seen as red spikes when looking at depictions of the virus. Because CBD and CBG bind to the spike proteins it can prevent the virus from entering cells and causing infection. This is great news for researchers, offering a new avenue in both preventative and treatment of the disease.
In laymans terms this means that while it may not be a vaccine, CBD and CBG may offer some natural resistance for the cells within your body. It does this by naturally creating an environment that infections like severe acutre respirator syndrome coronavirus-2, along with its variants, can’t thrive. So, while it may not stop the virus from entering your body, it makes it more challenging to infect your cells.
We have long known about the antimicrobial and antibacterial benefits of CBD and CBG, so this information that it can be applied as a natural antiviral does not come as a shock, but rather another great benefit to add to the long list of cannabinoids. If nothing else, it makes it another great reason to keep using this miraculous compound in our everyday life.
